Sul lungomare di Rachvate Cape Pattaya (Na Klua), si trova una gigantesca costruzione in legno di recente costruzione chiamata Santuario della Verita’.Un universo di simboli intagliati nel legno rappresentano l'equilibrio e l'armonia nel santuario della Verità, sulla baia di Pattaya. La tranquillità regna sovrana tra guglie, angeli, dei e animali, mentre decine di artisti, con calma, ogni giorno continuano a scolpire i 105 metri di altezza della struttura. Lavorano nel santuario da ventiquattro anni. Arrivano dal Laos, dal Vietnam, dalla Cambogia. Il loro lavoro non finirà mai, spiegano, perché il tempio della Verità è stato concepito come un'opera d'arte senza fine: è un santuario che non smetterà mai di essere costruito. E non solo per ragioni filosofiche e religiose, ma anche per continuare a dare lavoro alla gente: è una costruzione superba ma, spiegano nel tempio "è stata creata non per arroganza, ma per la bontà che nasce dalla religione, dalla filosofia e dall'arte" . In questo momento, spiegano, sono circa trecento le persone impegnate nei lavori.Procedono con calma nei cento metri di lunghezza della struttura, si godono il tempo del loro compito: intagliare ogni centimetro - il tempio è interamente costruito in legno - disegnando con l'arte le verità religiose e filosofiche orientali. Questa era l'idea del miliardario Thail Khun Lek Viriyaphan che lo concepì: ogni punto deve essere lavorato. Una volontà che continua anche oggi che lui non c'è più: la sua famiglia infatti non ha mai smesso di chiamare generazioni di intagliatori non solo dalla Thailandia ma anche dai Paesi vicini.Mentre entriamo nel santuario della verità, una giovane thailandese, con elmetto di sicurezza in testa, definisce l'occhio di una statua. Con calma. Una scala di legno lunga un centinaio di metri è aperta al centro del tempio, per arrivare a scolpire fin lassù in cima, sotto il tetto. Lavorano in ogni luogo: nell'alzata dei gradini, sulle guglie, sulle pareti, sulle colonne, sulle porte, all'interno e all'esterno. Ogni immagine intagliata è profondamente simbolica. All'interno del tempio, il genio degli artisti ha lavorato su sette elementi creatori - cielo, terra, Padre, Madre, luna, sole e stelle - all'esterno, invece, su quattro: la religione, la vita, la filosofia immortale, la pace.
Rappresentati, sulle guglie attraverso statue in legno: la prima con un fiore di loto, la seconda con le età della vita, la terza con un libro, la quarta con un piccione appollaiato sulla mano, simbolo di pace. Nel punto più alto, sulla guglia centrale, c'è il simbolo di Phra Sir Ariyamethai, il Buddha quinto dell'era Bhadhra. La scelta è tutta filosofico - religiosa: il tempio della verità vuole essere infatti un luogo dove la gente possa riunirsi per riconoscere i sette creatori e i quattro elementi che porteranno al mondo ideale. In un percorso sia individuale che collettivo.Ma quali sono i passi da compiere per arrivare al mondo ideale? Innanzitutto la guerra tra il bene e il male, rappresentata con le storie di Mahabharta e Ramayana al fine, spiegano "di contribuire alla lotta contro i desideri personali e la lussuria". Ed ecco che il Santuario della Verità diventa tutto uno snodarsi di storie buddiste e di tradizioni indù. Sul frontone, la saggezza che sconfigge l'ignoranza; nelle sculture del lato frontale, l'amore dei genitori verso i figli "che è più grande di un oceano". E poi ancora: statue che raccontano episodi della Krishnavatar, l'ottava reincarnazione di Vishnu e la Bhagavatgita, una delle più celebri testi di induismo. Altre sculture ancora rappresentano il sole (l'onore e lo status sociale), Marte (il coraggio e l'industria), Mercurio (la dolcezza), Giove (la saggezza), Venere (la ricchezza), Saturno (l'infelicità e la sofferenza). E poi i quattro elementi. Tutto per meditare sulle grandi questioni del cielo e della terra e sui diversi percorsi filosofici e religiosi che portano ad esse.
